Universal Studios Broken Promise To Patch Adams

What’s up with this, Universal Studios?   A promise made long ago, now time to fulfill.

Many years ago, I watched a true story of Patch Adams life and his selfless mission. I had the opportunity to listen to an interview recently that inspired me to write this blog about Patch and his passionate and tireless undertaking. I couldn’t believe he is on the road over 300 days a year, traveling to various places in the world, entertaining those who are in dire need of hope, love and comfort– many of them, children.

Patch has had this dream of opening up a hospital  He is literally blessing us with a new hospital model. –The Gesundheit Institute.–It’s not like the typical hospital models that are currently out there.  Patch envisions a hospital where 90% of the costs are eliminated. Yes, you heard correctly. Does it sound like a fantasy? On top of this delicious intention, he’s proposing free medical care and hospital stays to the patients.  And get this–No one is turned away.

Patch’s model includes the use of allopathic, complimentary and holistic approach to heal the body, mind and spirit. The model is one of community, an eco village and one doctors are paid as much as the cleaning people. It’s getting better, isn’t it?  This is a non profit hospital model.  Patch stated in the interview that there are a few thousand doctors and nurses who apply to Gesundheit Institute per year to be a part of this new health care system.  This has been the first time I’ve been encouraged about healthcare.  I believe  it will become a reality! But it will take many voices to get this out there!

Patch mentioned for the first 12 years he lived in a 6 bed room, communal home with a staff of 20, including 3 doctors and their families, who cared for 500-1,000 people a month. 5 to 50 patients stayed over night. I was in awe by the fact that he interviewed his patients extensively. He took 3-4 intense hours to really get to know them. He visited their home and got to also know their families.  Wasn’t this how it use to be way back when?

A while back, Patch figured he needed to get out and become more visible. He began speaking and entertaining all over the world as he felt his dream wouldn’t be realized if he stayed in one place, assisting a small number of individuals.  He mentioned that our society pays more attention to sports figures playing with their balls than realizing 30,000 children die a year of starvation. There was a few chuckles but this is quite true!  He’s now in to his 25th year of clown trips. The first journey was to Russia, visiting orphanages, prisons, nursing homes, etc. Now,  he takes 40 people to Russia every year, from 3-88 years old and never screening anyone. Write him if you’re interested!

I was a bit taken back when I heard Universal Studios promised Patch Adams a donation to build the first hospital through the funds made from the film of his life. This never occurred. How many millions upon millions have they made from the Patch Adams film? A broken promise that needs a collective voice to help get this issue resolved! Robin Williams, where are you? Could you help with this dilemma?

Patchs passion and commitment to the well being of humanity will pay off. All that he is involved in– truly remarkable!   –From orphanages, to stopping children’s sex slavery in the Amazon, to speaking engagements and clown performing all over the world and much more. He mentioned he doesn’t need much sleep!

Judy Joy Jones,  the host of the show, named Patch, a nondenominational Saint of our times. He truly is a giver for the greater good of human kind.

I have an idea—Lets start a $1.00 fund to help Patch and his mission. I’m asking Americans to send Gesundheit Institute $1.00 (or more) so we can have our own health model. Those millions without insurance please step forward and gift $1.00. Calling those  struggling to pay their increasing health care bills  and those with mounting medical bills, please reach in your pocket for a 1.00.  Let’s reach 10 million in donations! Please pass this forward and donate. Collectively, we must begin to get involved if we want change to occur.          patchadams.org
