I’ve sat back and listened to both sides of the media’s view on the Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman case and noticed how this story transformed within no time. I first viewed the photo of Trayvon and observed the innocence surrounding this young man. My thoughts went to judging George Zimmerman who shot Trayvon. I also wondered… “What in the world did Trayvon do ( if anything) to provoke such a confrontation?” A few days later, more photos of Trayvon emerged and additional information about this young man came forward. What happened to Trayvon’s beautiful light that was in the first photo? Why would the media plaster the first old photo on every news channel and on the internet when Trayvon was only 13 and not a recent photo? Is that fair? Doesn’t the media have a responsibility to the public? There was a significant shift in photos- in my opinion. Is it the music these children listen to? Is it peer pressure, drugs, divorce, other outside influences? A combination? Was George Zimmerman fearful from the get go? No one was there to witness this unfortunate crime. It seems—- George Zimmerman made some decisions that were not for him to make?

I was talking with a client last week, who has a non profit, teaching children/teens life skills through dance. His revolutionary program is a healthy avenue to instruct children/teens, espy at risk, how to shift their behaviors by teaching life skill tools. I brought up the fact Travon’s photos showed something significant had changed. Would Trayvon still be a live today if he resembled the first photo that fateful night? Was Trayvon at risk? Has George had any life skills training?

I was stunned some of the black community came marching out to proclaim their position. Again, here we go, one side against the other. When will this ever change? It’s not about black or white. It’s about yet another tragedy that could of possibly been handled differently. How in the world are we going to live in peace in this world with leaders and some of the nation not looking at this on a higher perspective? Maybe they should sit down with my friend Aba Gayle, whose young adult daughter was brutally murdered by a man out of his mind on drugs. Talk to Aba Gayle about how she took another approach and maybe she can be a mentor. Talk to Aba Gayle how she found peace by soul searching and by shifting hatred to forgiveness. Talk to Aba Gayle and listen as she shares her selfless work within the prison walls to help inmates grow past old, outdated and truly spiritually immature behaviors our society has indirectly fueled for too long. Aba Gayle, probably part of the small percentage of humans at this time evolved enough to get to this place. And it would be a good idea if many of these leaders take a life skill course.

What I’m really, really sad about is that 2 families are forever changed by the choices made that fateful night. Two families who love their children and now deeply plagued by something that could of been resolved if both of these young men had the proper life skill tools to resolve issues peacefully.This is the true disconnect. A great example of what is going on on a larger scale.

There is a huge opportunity for many to help create the changes that are long past due. Will these two families eventually join Aba Gayle’s lead and participate in some way? I wonder what Trayvon is now feeling and thinking? In heaven, peace and love prevail! Will we ever get to that place on earth or do we need to wait until we die?
